ITM's Herbs from India Brand Information
[for a detailed description of a sample formula please see: Karnim]
ITM supplies practitioners with an extensive
line of high quality Ayurvedic formulations, including:
· 12 formulations in tablet form (500 mg tablets,
120 tablets per bottle)
· 4 herbal massage oils (in bottles of four
fluid ounces each);
· 1 sinus oil (applied by massage
over the sinus area and used as nasal drops, in bottles of
one fluid ounce); and
· 1 herbal honey (the famous Chyawanprash,
probably the most widely used traditional herb product in
India, in bottles of 500 grams).
Because there is no independent licensing
for Ayurvedic practice in the U.S., practitioners who prescribe
these remedies are usually licensed as acupuncturists, naturopathic
physicians, or medical doctors. In the absence of such specific
licensing in Ayurveda, the formulas are designed for general
use and are not necessarily restricted to prescription-only
application.
Individuals with basic training in Ayurvedic
medicine, whether licensed or unlicensed, may obtain these
formulas. In order to have proper background information about
the tableted formulas, their ingredients, and their use within
the Ayurvedic system, the ITM book A
Bag of Pearls (2002 edition) is essential (when obtaining
this book, ask for supplemental information on the massage
oils and herbal honey). Those who have no training in Ayurvedic
medicine will not find this information sufficient for understanding
and using the remedies, and should not obtain the tableted
formulas without visiting a practitioner who will prescribe
the appropriate remedies. The herbal honey and massage oils
may be used by anyone; however, always see a health professional
if you have any significant health problems to assure that
you are not missing important diagnostic procedures and essential
treatments.
