MEITO UMI (BATH SALTS FROM JAPAN) Mineral baths taken at natural volcanic hot springs (Japanese: magma onsen) are considered highly therapeutic. Their use has been shown to help alleviate some types of eczema (e.g., neurodermatitis), and to be soothing to the skin, muscles, joints, and mind. The Meito Umi bath salts are derived from a famous natural volcanic source in Beppu, Japan that has been relied upon for therapeutic benefits as well as relaxation by millions of visitors; people have been coming here for the baths for over 1200 years. Beppu, located on the southwest island of Kyushu, at the center Oita's sea inlet, is famous in Japan for its geothermal resources, with over 4,000 hot springs. At the Beppu Research Institute there are a wide variety of therapeutic baths: kinetic bath, steam bath, walking bath, whirlpool bath, electric water bath, hot packs and paraffin baths. All of them use the hot springs water to help in the rehabilitation of arthritis and rheumatism patients. Magma Onsen helps to maintain the acid alkaline balance of the skin with a pH of 7.5 to 8.5 while providing relaxation to over-worked, stressed, and tired muscles and joints. It is safe for filtration systems and plumbing, so Magma Onsen can be used in bathtub, spa, or hot tub.
The volcanic springs product has been packaged for the Western market by adding a few English words to the label and inserting a small English brochure under the lid. It is available in bulk powder (most economical form), with 500 grams in a tin, and in boxes of individual packets, with 30 packets per box (15 grams per packet, a total of 450 grams). The usual quantity for a 40-50 gallon bath tub is 12-15 grams; more can be used if desired. The powder contains added sodium sulphate to stabilize the salts and a blue coloring (tartrazine) to reveal its presence in the tub; a mild fragrance has been added.
